Where there is strong infrastructure, hope flourishes. This statement is more than a slogan—it serves as a cornerstone of my leadership vision for the Yapen Islands. I firmly believe that infrastructure development is not merely a physical undertaking, but a strategic move to shape a sustainable and inclusive future for our people.
For years, fundamental questions have remained unanswered in Yapen. Why are so many homes built with substandard materials? Why can’t our abundant fish, fruits, and vegetables reach wider markets? Why has the stunning natural beauty of the Yapen Islands not yet become a recognized tourist destination? The answer to all of these lies in one core issue: insufficient infrastructure.

That is why we have made infrastructure development a top priority. We are constructing airports, connecting roads, bridges, docks, expanding access to electricity, and improving telecommunications. These efforts go beyond physical connectivity—they are designed to empower local communities. With proper infrastructure, supply chains come alive, investment becomes viable, and isolated regions begin to integrate into the broader economy. Infrastructure simplifies daily life, lowers logistics costs, and opens the door to technology, innovation, and opportunity.
With the groundwork in place, our focus then shifts to economic empowerment through the sustainable use of local resources. Yapen is not only rich in beauty, but in natural wealth. Our seas hold immense potential in fisheries and premium seaweed cultivation. Our fertile land supports coffee, tropical fruits like durian and matoa, and various types of vegetables. Even our forests serve as vital conservation zones that protect biodiversity unique to Papua.
Recognizing this potential, we have identified three key sectors as the backbone of Yapen’s economic growth: fisheries, agriculture, and tourism. These sectors are interconnected and mutually reinforcing. As infrastructure improves, local products can be processed, stored, and marketed more efficiently. Meanwhile, our breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage create an unmatched opportunity for eco-tourism rooted in conservation and community values.
We understand that building Yapen is not an overnight mission. But with infrastructure as our foundation and natural resources as our strength, we are confident that the Yapen Islands will emerge as a region of productivity, resilience, and prosperity.
Prosperity is not just a promise—it is a path we build together, with vision, determination, and the commitment of every citizen.
This is our journey forward. This is how we build a better Yapen—from the ground up.
